Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Chiropractic Care (But Were Afraid to Ask)

If you've ever found yourself Googling "chiropractor near me" at 11pm with a stiff neck, you're not alone. Over 35 million Americans see a chiropractor every year, and that number is growing. But for a lot of people in the Atlanta area, chiropractic care still comes with a whole list of questions. Do I have to keep coming forever? Who can actually get adjusted? Is it really just for back pain?

In Episode 15 of the Easewell Podcast, two of our own doctors - Dr. Jon Rouan and Dr. Shawn Robinson - sat down for an honest, straight-up conversation to answer exactly those questions. Here's what they had to say.

"Do I Have to Keep Coming Forever?"

It's the question every chiropractor gets - usually with a little smirk - because we all know it's coming.

The honest answer? Not necessarily. But here's the more complete picture: life doesn't stop creating stress on your body just because your pain went away.

Dr. Robinson puts it simply: think of chiropractic care like dusting your house. Just because you did a deep clean doesn't mean the dust stops coming back. Or think of it like your car's oil change. Skip enough of them and you're not just dealing with an oil change anymore - you're looking at a blown engine.

The real shift happens when patients feel what "normal" actually feels like. Once that happens, most people don't want to go back. Dr. Rouan points out that regular maintenance - even once a month - can prevent those "I can barely move" moments that end up requiring multiple back-to-back appointments just to get functional again. It saves time, money, and keeps your body working the way it's supposed to.

Who Can Get Adjusted? (Spoiler: Pretty Much Everyone)

This one surprises people every time.

Dr. Rouan has been taking his own child to get adjusted since the baby was three weeks old, gentle, sustained pressure, more of a check than a crack. His reasoning: it makes more sense to grow a healthy child than to fix a broken adult.

On the other end of the spectrum, some of the most rewarding patients are those 60 and older who've never been to a chiropractor before. They come in skeptical. They leave feeling better than they have in years, kicking themselves for not starting sooner.

Chiropractic care is for everyone - newborns to grandparents, athletes to desk workers, pregnant women to people recovering from car accidents in the Atlanta area. "Birth to earth," as Dr. Rouan puts it. If you have a spine, you're a candidate.

What to Expect When You Walk Into One of Our Offices

Whether you're visiting us in Union City, Duluth, or any of our other metro Atlanta locations, you're going to feel like a person, not a number.

From the warm greeting at the front desk to one-on-one time with your doctor, the experience is what Dr. Rouan describes as a "deluxe spa vibe." You'll sit down and actually talk about what's going on. You'll be heard. You'll get a clear explanation of what's happening in your body and what the plan is to address it. And you'll leave understanding your body better than when you walked in.

Education is central to what we do. As Dr. Robinson says, that education is power and too many patients have spent years feeling like no one was listening.

Shockwave Therapy: What Is It and Should You Try It?

One of the most exciting additions at our offices right now is shockwave therapy and if you've been dealing with chronic knee, ankle, or hip pain, this is worth your attention.

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue. The research is particularly strong for patellar tendinopathy, Achilles tendinopathy, and piriformis syndrome. But what's making both doctors genuinely excited is what they're seeing in actual patients.

Dr. Rouan used it on his own heel pain, something he'd been managing for nearly a year, and noticed significant improvement after one session. He's since used it on patients with chronic knee issues, including one who was told he needed ACL revision surgery. After three sessions of shockwave therapy combined with physical therapy, that patient was back to his sport and pushed the surgery off indefinitely. His own orthopedist told him to keep going.

In a world where people want results fast, shockwave therapy can deliver noticeable relief in as little as three to five minutes. Ask about it at your next visit.

Home Exercises for "Spinal Hygiene"

Dr. Robinson makes the point that dentists did a great job of normalizing daily dental hygiene as something you do consistently, not just when something hurts. He wants to do the same for your spine.

Here are the three exercises he and Dr. Rouan recommend:

Bird Dogs: On all fours, extend your opposite arm and leg simultaneously, then switch. Reinforces cross-pattern brain movement, activates back extension muscles, and counteracts the forward flexion posture most of us are stuck in all day.

"W" Resistance Band Rows: With a resistance band and elbows tucked in, retract your shoulder blades as if squeezing a pencil between them. Dr. Robinson's go-to for desk workers. Directly fights rounded-shoulder posture.

Chin Tucks — "Red Light Range of Motion": At a red light, push the back of your head gently into your headrest, hold five seconds, release. It activates posterior neck muscles weakened by forward head posture. Simple, daily, effective.

Key point: do these before you're in pain. Dysfunction starts long before you ever feel it.

Chiropractic and Personal Injury: What You Should Know After a Car Accident in Atlanta

Atlanta traffic is no joke. If you've been in a car accident anywhere in the metro area, on I-285, in Union City, Duluth, or beyond, getting evaluated by a chiropractor should be one of your first calls.

Most auto accident injuries, particularly whiplash and soft tissue damage, don't show up as pain immediately. You can feel fine for days or weeks while the injury sets in. The longer it goes unaddressed, the more likely it becomes chronic.

Chiropractic care is one of the most effective conservative treatments for car accident injuries. It's non-invasive, drug-free, and addresses the root cause. At Ease Wellness Chiropractic, we see personal injury patients across our Atlanta-area locations and understand how to properly assess and document injuries from day one, which matters for both your health and your case.

If you're looking for a car accident chiropractor in Atlanta, GA, don't wait until the pain becomes unbearable. Come in. Let's figure out what's going on.

The Future of Chiropractic: Why Now Is the Best Time to Start

As medicine moves away from opioid-based pain management, more patients and even the VA are turning to chiropractic care as the natural, effective alternative. Every NFL, NBA, and MLB team has a chiropractor. Tiger Woods. Tom Brady. The best athletes in the world swear by it, partly because they're drug-tested and need non-pharmaceutical ways to perform and recover.

That logic applies to everyone. You've put wear and tear on your body. You deserve to maintain it properly.

Worth knowing: becoming a chiropractor requires 8-9 years of education and over 4,200 hours of class, lab, and internship. These are highly trained doctors.
